December in the Stockyards

Exchange Ave.
Today we took a spur of the moment trip to The Fort Worth Stockyards.  I say trip, but it is actually about 15 minutes from our home.  Our timing was perfect!!!  In the stockyards there is a twice daily cattle drive.  The Fort Worth Herd is the world’s only twice daily cattle drive.  The cowboys drive the cattle through the main street of the Stockyards every day at 11:30am and then back again at 4pm.
These are Longhorn cows!  And they are some mighty cows!
I can't tell you how many times I have seen this cattle drive and still love it even today!  The boys have been going since they were very young and still get so excited to see these beasts!

Are they coming yet?!

Once they start coming they are right there in front of us.  So close it is kinda scary for the boys to be standing right there.  But they LOVE it!  I keep a close watch as do the cows.

Here they come!

The "Cattle Boss" leads the Longhorns down Exchange Ave. in the Stockyards.  I love to hear him talk to/holler at the cows to keep them moving along.
Cattle Boss

Look at the beauty of these big Longhorns!  I never grow tired of seeing the big cows.  (I know I am such a kid when it comes to animals!  Can't help it....God made me that way!)

It was a FUN day to see the cows and see the Stockyards in December.  As the last few cows made their way past us we wished them a Merry Christmas.  BTW Christmas in one of the very few days they do not have the cattle drive.

Great pictures! What a fun day for y'all!
BTW, I have been trying to get a good video of our new calf running and playing to send to the boys! All this mild weather has had her feeling good and acting silly:)

Hope y'all have a great CHRISTmas!
