Our last harvest.........

It is SO HOT!!!!! Yesterday was the 16th day in a row we have had triple degree heat!  Needless to say the gardens are toast!!!   And most of our last harvest will go in the compost bin.

Too hot to water and keep up with the gardens!

Everything is dying..........

Too much heat and not enough water to grow!  It is time.  Time to be thankful for the amazing blessings God gave us this Spring and Summer.  And time to get ready for Fall/Winter gardening.  This was by far our best year yet in our little hobby of gardening.  The work was well worth it!  We enjoyed eating garden fresh veggies and fruit for a while.  But now it is time to prepare the beds for the next season.

Here is what I will begin working on this week.  To avoid the heat I will be out in the very early mornings.......6AM to be exact.  I'll feel like a real farmer out in the early morn working my butt off to prepare my "field".  BTW the boys do call this side of the yard "the field".   Look at this mess!

 Overgrown and dying!

Arthur ate every last tomato in the bed!

Weeds galore!  I even managed to grow a real weed with a name......Buffalo Burr......the one below.  For the longest I thought I had made a hybrid.  It has leaves like a watermelon plant.

With prickly thorns all over it!

As well as prickly little balls growing all over it.  And pretty yellow flowers that bees love!

And check out the smallest praying mantis I have ever seen!  Do you see it?!

I am sure we will find many more bugs, creatures and crawling "things" as we go through this BIG mess!  I just love nature and all that is out there to see!  You just have to pay attention and keep looking!

What big chore are you taking on this week?  Please share so I don't feel so alone in a major task!

Happy Monday by the way!!!!!

I'd like to tackle the soon-to-be-nursery, but it's almost too daunting, so I've just been closing the door... :-)
