A special breakfast made simple

How much time do you spend making breakfast for your children?  I'll be honest.......it depends on what is going on the rest of the day.  And if I have not thought about it the night before I totally go with something fast and easy. But I know how much I enjoy a special breakfast.

Well last week during our "staycation" week I had one day where something came over me and I decided to make the boys a special breakfast.

When I say "special" believe me I don't mean homemade blueberry pancakes and sausage with fresh squeezed orange juice.  What I mean is I spent an extra 10 minutes to make it FUN!!! Something different from the usual bowl and cup.

I dropped everything I was doing and devoted some time to making a breakfast I knew they would eat and enjoy.

I picked things I knew they liked and served them up a little different.

Strawberry-banana smoothie(recipe below), toast with butter, fresh strawberries and chocolate chips!  The boys love their meals being served on a "tray".  My big, stained baking pans are the perfect size to serve them a small meal or snack.  A bright colored napkin and colored fork was perfect.  I didn't intend to make everything in the red family color, but it worked!

They also love drinking out of Mason jars.  And I love using them!  To the boys this is special.  It is not something they do or get everyday. The glass plates are just that......cheap glass plates I bought years ago when we use to host lots of parties. They were less than $1.50 at Garden Ridge back in the day and I bought a ton!  I realize this is so simple.  But a little effort on my part and some creative thinking,  I managed to pull off  a "special" breakfast that got my boys excited.

The toast with butter I simply used one of our sandwich cutters.  I ♥ the heart!!!  And the chocolate chips....well that is where I added a no fail factor!  What child wouldn't like a few small pieces of chocolate for breakfast?!

A very simple breakfast that put smiles on their faces and made me feel good that I took a few extra minutes to prepare.

What fun ways do you serve your children breakfast?  What special way do you prepare their food?
I would love for you to share!

Smoothie Recipe
2 very ripe bananas cut up
1-2 cups of strawberries cut up
1-2 cups of vanilla yogurt
milk(use your judgement of this...the boys do not like super thick smoothies)
4 cubes of ice

Blend well and serve.

**Tip-because Ryan does not like milk,  smoothies are a great way I can get calcium in his tiny body. That is why I add so much yogurt.  And use milk......you could do a smoothie without milk at all if you like.
