Well it has been one week now. So how is it going? Are you making it up at your set time? I have been pretty consistent, but will confess not only am I a morning person, I am already up with my husband at 4 AM!!! Insane I know! Yep that big ugly 4AM is staring at me every morning to GET UP!!!!
I may be a morning person, but it is still hard!!! My sinful self wants to just get up, drink coffee and watch TV, play on the computer or go back to bed.
Last Friday I got up, made Brant's lunch, then sat and drank coffee with him for a few minutes before he left for work. As soon as he left I did a little reading in my Bible and quickly fell asleep on the couch. I still believe early mornings are THE best time to spend with my Heavenly Father. It is the one time during the day that the house is completely quiet and I can actually hear myself think....and pray. My mind is fresh and my body is rested.
I found this quote from John Piper on the blog, Girltalk , where this whole club thing was started and it is perfect for the way I feel about making a special effort in getting up a little early to spend time for God.
“I earnestly recommend that [Bible reading and prayer] be in the early morning, unless there are some extenuating circumstances,” writes John Piper, “Entering the day without a serious meeting with God, over his Word and in prayer, is like entering the battle without tending to your weapons. The human heart does not replenish itself with sleep. The body does, but not the heart. We replenish our hearts not with sleep, but with the Word of God and prayer.”
Amen and Amen!!! But you do not have to be getting up at 5AM!!!
Maybe a little later in the day is your time. In my case I must be up early enough to have this time, take a shower and get fully dressed before the boys get up. Because we homeschool my
But just remember your time can be whatever works out for you and your day. Some people prefer to do their Bible study/alone time with God in the evenings. The time does not really matter.....just as long as you are doing it!
Last week on Girltalk they mentioned having a partner to hold you accountable for getting up. What a GREAT idea!!! Maybe you need that right now as you start the club. Maybe having a friend who will join the club with you where you can hold each accountable would be helpful. Maybe send you a text to make sure you are UP!
A little encouragement from a friend goes a long way to help you stay on track.
I had comments and emails about what I was reading or studying during this time. Right now I am reading Tabletalk from Ligonier Ministries and R.C. Sproul. It is a daily Bible study that offers me some structure for this devotion time. Each study gives scripture for further study. After my daily Bible study readings I read a book. Right now I am reading Eyes Wide Open. A couple of chapters in my book and then my much needed time in prayer.
This "club" time can be whatever works for you. But I highly recommend spending part of that time in prayer with God.
Check out Girltalk for more information about the 5 O'Clock Club .
And leave me a comment or send an email to let me know how your mornings are going so far.
