What Almost 8 Year Old Boys Do....

I have done this post for the past two years right before the boys' birthday.  I surely could not stop now. So what do almost eight year old boys do???

They play.  And I mean play hard.  They wear me out where I need a nap and run circles all around me as I sleep.  They drive me crazy in a good way......most days. They fight, tease and hurt one another. They make each other cry.  And then within minutes are best friends.  They are loud, weird, funny and quirky. They make up tales with a straight face that will leave you wondering for days if they were telling the truth or not.  And make you laugh until you cry. They can devour cookies, sweet breads or brownies within seconds.  And chips and popcorn-WOW!  Most days they smell like an outside dog. And do not like to take a shower. They think body odor is funny and love to share it.  They are completely opposite-one will not go outside without shoes and socks, usually boots of some kind, and the other lives to never wear shoes....his motto: Bare Feet RULE!  They are rough, tough and MEAN!  They can be as sweet as sugar and in a split second so mean if you kicked them in the heart your toe would break. They make a game out of everything.  And never play with a toy the way it was intended.  And usually destroy it in the process.  They think about the strangest things and are way smarter than I give them credit for.

They catch lizards, bugs or anything creeping and crawling. As well as cats and dogs.  And chickens!

And are pretty proud of their catch.  But they never keep them for long.  They know all too well that God's creatures belong on God's earth and will tell you so.

They help set the table when Momma needs a helper.  And are the first ones to BOLT back outside after a meal.

Sometimes they even work together.

They ignore me when I am taking pictures. Just the perfect age where pictures are for sissies.

They usually play cool like they don't see me, but I just keep on taking pictures.

They still like to play dress up. Usually several changes throughout a day.....

even during school.

But at any given point in the day they still need their Momma......to make their coffee milk in the mornings, for cinnamon toast and peanut butter crackers, to reach in high places, to help with Legos stuck together, to do surgery on stuffed animals, to always teach them about nature, to instill a love for God's creation and creatures, to huggle with when they get up in the morning, to read to, to tell Bible stories, to talk about childhood memories, to laugh with, to dance with, to rub aching legs,  to run(hugs and kisses too)to from bikes falls, for band-aids on boo boos,  to take splinters out of fingers, legs, arms and many other parts of the body where splinters do not belong, to help get them started on cleaning an overwhelmingly dirty room, to say, "you'll be OK"  and "YES, you can do it!", to say,  "YOU MUST TRY!"  and "I love you".

And about one minute before their eyes close at the end of the day they are calm and loving.  And will always be my sweet little babies.  They still need and want love.  And can not sleep without hugs and kisses from Momma AND Daddy before going to sleep.

And that is what almost 8 year old boys do.
