Enjoying Nature Even When its HOT

There is a spot we love to visit often.  But with the summer heat well under way it makes it hard to go as often as we would like.  We still try to go at least once a week even if only for an hour.

Nature and being outdoors is just something I can't get away from.  Managing the heat and steaming, humid weather is something I am having to relearn.

Although I grew up here in SE Texas Brant and I lived in North Texas for eighteen years.  North Texas is by far much hotter, but with much dryer conditions.  SE Texas is not as hot, but very humid.  Tropically like.

As an outdoor/nature lover I first of all prepare myself mentally.  I tell myself it is going to be hot and steamy.  And I will feel like I am in the arm pit of Texas.  And I WILL sweat....secret-sweating is good for us and actually feels good to me.  It is our body's way of cleaning out the nasty stuff.  So enjoy it.

I always tell the boys, "There is too much beauty to see outside our front door! Now get outside and play!"  So we get out early in the mornings (or early evenings), wear light colored clothing if at all possible, all natural materials cool easier too, take plenty of water and walk slowly.

Walking slowly not only keeps us from getting overheated it allows us to take our time and see the beauty all around us.

God gave us so much to see and enjoy.  He also gave us the smarts to know how to enjoy His creation.  Morning or evening I hope you find time to get outside today.

Tips to enjoy outdoors in the heat:
-Wear sunscreen if you plan to be out for long.
-Drink plenty of water before, during and after (I freeze bottled water to take along with us.  It is  perfect for those super HOT days.  15 minutes into our walk it melts and we can drink and enjoy something super COLD!).
-Have plenty of fruit on hand to munch on after your fun outdoors.

How do you enjoy nature even when its HOT?

What a beautiful post. Your pictures are incredible. In the midwest we have plenty of humid days, though, we haven't really yet. I am enjoying our spring/fall like temperatures here. How wonderful that you are giving your boys such an appreciation for nature and being outside. Enjoy your summer.

Thanks Amy. Since early on I have tried to instill a love of nature with the boys. Plus it is a big part of our homeschooling.
