Sol + stice derives from a combination of Latin words meaning "sun" + "to stand still." As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky. As a major celestial event, the Summer Solstice results in the longest day and the shortest night of the year.
Today is the first official day of SUMMER 2013!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Summer to you! And Happy Friday too. We are ready for a fun weekend indeed!
Today I have lots planned to celebrate this first day of SUMMER!
-Sidewalk chalk art
-water gun fights
-a celebratory snow cone
-Hawaiian style pizza
-hunting for fireflies (the boys have never seen them...I've got my jars ready!)
-and a SURPRISE!
The surprise- FUN with GLOW STICKS! Shhhhh, don't tell. I am trying to keep it a secret. They will LOVE this! If I gather enough 2-liter bottles I plan to do glow in the dark bowling. If not we'll just have fun outdoors with glow sticks. I'll light all the citronella candles, get out the bug spray and we'll party the night away celebrating SUMMER SOLSTICE. I hope Brant and I can make it past 10PM.
And then tomorrow we are off to my happy place.....the BEACH!
I hope you have a great weekend and enjoy this new season!
What are your plans for this first day of SUMMER?
Whatever you have planned make sure to get outside and have some FUN! Drink plenty of water.....or WILD AIR!!
