And so it begins. Our summer session of school. We so enjoyed our month off, but it is time to start SUMMER SCHOOL! This type of learning will be a little different. A little more FUN and a lot more relaxed.
We will only have school Tuesdays-Thursdays and the times will vary. My thoughts for summer school........continued learning, but with more of a relaxed schedule. Sleep in a little and slowly began our day. Enjoy some outside time while it is still bearable and do more lessons in the hottest part of the day. Leaving room for spur of the moment ideas and FUN! And our summer session will include some unit studies the boys have picked.
We will continue with Life of Fred Math . As well as reading. I have a few read alouds I am anxious to read to them. And of course keeping up with them reading to me. And for FUN we are adding Reading Eggs and Drive Thru History . As well as the unit studies I mentioned above. The boys each came up with some things they would like us to spend some time studying.
Unit Studies:
Komodo Dragon
Nocturnal Animals
T-Rex
Gators
Railroads
Panama Canal
Space-Planets
Family Unit Study-How to make ice cream-getting Daddy in on the summer learning.
Next week they will attend a basketball camp so there goes starting a new schedule. Just as we begin this summer session it will change up again next week. But hey that is life. Life is always changing and usually throws us curve balls when we least expect. The attitude you have about it makes a BIG difference in how your life/day will go. I have been talking up attitude with the boys this week. And my attitude must be in check as well. So it is fitting that we will spend some time on character traits. All working together to spur one another on to stay positive. Having a positive attitude is not easy to teach to children! My hope is my positive attitude will be a reflection to them.

How wonderful that you continue your schooling throughout the year. I am sure it helps keep them engaged. And, the how to make ice cream sounds like my kind of class :)
Hi Tasha!!! I hope you don't mind me asking a few questions about homeschooling. I signed my daughter up in a cyber charter school and now I'm not so sure it's for us. Do you still use my father's world? Do you have to create their curriculum? One thing I like about the charter school is the curriculum is already there and waiting for us everyday. With an almost 2 year old and one on the way, I don't think I'd have time to do that! I'd appreciate any feedback you have!! Thanks!
Hi Marisa. With MFW you have a curriculum already set up for you. It is not on computer so you will have to read through it all and set things up for yourself.
I would be happy to answer detailed questions if you want to email me.

Feel free to send me an email if you have other questions. I can even send you pic of what the teacher's guide looks like. It will be for second grade, but it will give you an idea.
