Day 2-Haven

Day 2
This was day two of me trying to make our home a haven.  I said in my post early this morning that I wanted to have a sit down breakfast with the boys.  We did it!!!!
Yes it took some juggling and trying to keep a happy face on, but I did it!  I was in constant check of my mouth and words so as to not set a bad tone.  At the last minute I decided I would make it a little special by actually setting the table.  And lighting candles.
This was a big deal to the boys.  A set table at breakfast!  I did enjoy it, but found out it may not work for us every morning.  It had us starting school at 9AM rather than 8AM.  If the boys prefer this then I may very well change our time. Starting that early is certainly not set in stone.  Otherwise I may do a sit down "special" breakfast once a week for sure!

After breakfast I quickly cleaned the table and the boys did their stuff to prepare for school. After school I was able to get all my chores done while the boys played outdoors.
We ate lunch and I gathered my stuff for the surprise visit to the park.  I got cheers from both.
We drive to a little park close to our home and then walk a trail to a bigger park.  Or so we thought.
We walked the trail, went over the bridge and the big park was gone!   No playground equipment in sight.
I was a little bummed......I  had brought a book, my prayer journal and paper to make lists for the week to use while they would play.
So our plans had to change. No problem for the boys though.  There were paths to explore, trees to climb and turtles to watch.

WE I stood at this bridge for the longest time!  The boys went back and forth watching the turtles and trying to skip rocks. They eventually were ready and we made it back to the little park.  As they played I finally was able to get out my stuff.
This is the cover of my prayer journal.  And this verse just happens to be one of my favorites!  As I read it I thanked my Heavenly Father for this day.  It has been(for the most part)a calm and peaceful day.  And only by the grace of God and His word am I able to have this kind of day.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  Proverbs 3:5

As we headed back home I told the boys about the snack we were going to have.
Apple Nachos. I got this idea from Monica over at The Homespun Heart
Their first response was, "GROSS!"  I tried to explain, but I knew I would just have to show them.
So this is what we came up with.
Apples slices, caramel, chocolate chips, butterscotch chips and Fall sprinkles----YUM!!!
Once they saw this everything changed!  It was so quiet in our haven as they sat and enjoyed this yummy treat.  Speaking of quiet.....as I type they are outside playing ball with Daddy.  They are out later than usual because I promised them they could stay up late to look at the moon.  Our lessons this week are about the letter "M" and the moon.  Today we learned about the different phases of the moon.  During that time we talked about staying up to see it.

I will start planning day 3 of making my home a haven here in a little while. Once we see the moon, I get the boys to bed and I get all cozy in my pjs.  Cozy in my pjs, all wrapped in a quilt on the couch.......that is my haven this evening.   As I plan I have to decide how much I want to do tomorrow.
We will get behind on Thursday by taking the day off from school to go to the Fall Homeschool Zoo Day.
We so often can get overwhelmed with "stuff" and let it interfere with our haven.
Today has been too good to have a crazy one tomorrow!
Right now I am thinking about my haven and another peaceful day.

How did your day go?

Oh Tasha, your day sounds lovely. What a neat park you have to visit. I just love turtles ♥ we find them pretty often as we live near a river and it always makes me HaPpY! The apple nachos look like so much fun ~ will have to try that. Your breakfast table was so inviting. I am inspired. Hope I can find time to blog about our day tomorrow:)

Your breakfast table looks so inviting. We do sit down together every morning for breakfast, it can take a while but I am still glad we do.

It sounds like you had a fun day.
