Prep for SCHOOL week!

Happy Labor Day!!!

I am devoting this week to my preparations for school!  Yep, it is here!  One week from today!!!!

While many of you have the day off and are probably enjoying a lot of nothing, we are busy getting ready for our second year of homeschooling.

Actually we are getting the room ready.  The school room/dining room is getting a face lift(we are painting it).  It will be much brighter starting school this year.

Sorry for the bright lights!

I'll share pictures next week of the differences in last year's room and this year's room.  Let's just say......I AM LOVING IT!!!!!

We have also started a new schedule for the evenings.  This is probably the hardest time of day for me.  And this summer we have had NO routine at all.  Bedtime was anywhere from 9PM to 10PM.

After supper we have family Bible study, but after that everyone goes their own way and that is when things fall apart.  Before I know it it is bedtime, rooms are a mess, dirty boys and I SCREAM!

Or like my sweet Matthew said, "You start freaking out!"

Well things have changed.  We started the new schedule last night and will continue it through this week to get them in a habit for next week.

I am in hopes that this will make things run more smoothly during the evening hours and I can come to love this time.  Right now it is not my favorite.

My mind is full of ideas for the new year.  I will be spending time throughout this week getting all my ducks in a row to make sure next week I am set to go!

Some have ask what we are using this year for curriculum.  I am going to be brave and do a little hodge podge of things.  A little here and a little there.

Last year I found we did not use a lot of what we ordered.  It was a set curriculum that came with everything I would need.  And then some.  To be honest it was a good start for a first timer, but I feel confident this year I can swing it on my own.  I hope! We'll see how it all works out.

First Grade Studies:
-Saxon Math 1
-Explode The Code Series
 *Get Ready for The Code
 *Get Set for The Code
 *Go for The Code
-History Through Literature
-Science

Math and Phonics will be taught daily.....Monday through Friday.  History on Tuesday and Science on Thursday.  Fridays after our lessons we will head to the library.  I plan to utilize the library this year for History and Science.  So Fridays we will get our books for the following week.  The boys love the library!!

And just like last year nature is a MUST!  Any day of the week we feel the urge to enjoy God's creation you can bet we will be outdoors doing our lessons!

I am most excited because our cRaZy heat is coming to an end. This morning it is a lovely 66 degrees and should only get up to 84.  Tomorrow it will be 59!!!

I am already dreaming of our first nature walk!  And the boys' first nature study entry for 2011!!! Maybe even next week!!!!!

So there you have it!  Some of what we are planning today and this week for our Prep for SCHOOL week!!

Come back tomorrow for a very quick and easy school snack!

Enjoy your day off!

It's always an adjustment after the freedom of SuMmEr to buckle down and get a routine! I have to get the little ones in bed by 8:00 pm or Sarah can't get up in the morning. Can't wait to see your pics of the school area:)and I am so ready for fall and PuMpKiN baking. When I grocery shop this week I need to buy a whole case of pumpkin(big smile).
