We have been working since early February getting things ready for SPRING gardening.
We started early because Brant had to build our raised beds back again. You may remember we removed them and were trying one big bed. You can read about that here .
Lets just say it did not go well. We gave up! Why continue with a new plan when an old one worked so well? Hey, you live and learn.
So we are back to raised beds!
Once the beds were built we added a rich soil, sorted through our seeds and got to planting.
We have been using Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds for years now. And have had wonderful results!!!!
So here is what we planted:
3 varieties of lettuce
CORN(this did so well last summer !!!)
carrots
beans
cucumbers
**And hopefully tomatoes if we can find an organic plant....not having much luck so far.**
A favorite part of gardening for the boys is preparing the beds and actually planting the seeds. We have been gardening now for about five years....they will be seven in April. So this is a part of their lives. They love to help get everything ready and love placing the seeds in the ground.
While we were getting the gardens ready Brant decided to move the compost bins. When he moved them we discovered wonderful, rich soil in the making!!! We have been composting for two or three years. Composting takes a little time to remember to do it, time for nature to process organic material and to have patience.
And then you get this........................
And where nature is recycling decomposed organic material into a rich soil, you will have worms and bugs. And there you will find little boys!
Gardening days are here!!!!
