Plain Old Vanilla

You may remember last week I talked about us starting summer school.  I also mentioned our unit studies.  One was a family unit study making ice cream.  Well the ice cream was indeed made, but it did not end up being made as a family.  The boys were gone, but the ice cream had to be made.  So that means we'll have to make it again to show them how ridiculously easy making ice cream can be!

I was shocked at how simple homemade ice cream is to make.  Growing up it seemed so complicated and time consuming watching my parents.  It seemed like it took FOR! EVER! Even when we moved up from the old crank style.  Twenty minutes and this was done.

Super easy and no cooking involved.  I think you will be surprised by this recipe.  Only four ingredients.......heavy whipping cream, half-n-half, sugar and vanilla.

You can find the recipe HERE .  We doubled this recipe.

Anytime I find recipes I always read comments or reviews.  This gives you a good idea about what to expect from the recipe.  This recipe had five stars with great reviews.  And coming from a chocolate lover who loves lots of chunks, crunch, ooey gooey goodness type ice cream I also give this a five star rating.

I will admit I might be a plain old vanilla convert with this recipe.

Of course we added: hot fudge, mini chocolate chips and cherries.  No need for whipped topping.  Seriously, it was that creamy and rich.  And surprisingly the next day just as good.  It did not have that gritty icey texture like some homemade ice creams can have.

Of course the boys LOVED it!  And will be begging for more.  Next up homemade Strawberry and then we make a family favorite.....Cookies and Cream!

Happy Monday y'all.  I am off to take my little stars to basketball camp.

So very YUMMY! My hubby loves when I add crushed butterfingers to this recipe. I add them in during the
last three minutes, just before done making. Glad to see you are having a "cool" summer!
