My little Van Gogh

Paintings have a life of their own that derives from the painter's soul.

Vincent Van Gogh

This could also be said for drawing and very true of my little Van Gogh, Matthew.  I can not begin to tell you the desire this child has for drawing.  It is an obsession to him.  One I will allow and do my best to nurture and foster along the way.  The days begin and end with drawings.  Pens, pencils, crayons and markers....it does not matter.  As long as he can have an instrument in his hands to create.  The amount of paper we go through is crazy, but I will continue to supply him with it.  My parents brought the boys a ream of paper(that is 500 sheets)this past weekend.  I am anxious to see how quickly he will go through it.  BTW Ryan could care less about drawing, but Matthew was born to draw.
Here are two of his most recent drawings that I love....

This one is a stomach digesting food.  There is a potato, blueberries and orange soda.  Not sure where he got this idea from or how this all came about, but he had to draw it.

And this one he told me is a drawing of an outdoor Farmer's Market. See the man picking his peaches, limes and blueberries.  And check out the airplane flying overhead.

He had some others from this past weekend, but I think my Mom snagged those.  He was drawing things with extreme details.  For instance drawings with sound waves and lights shining through things. During my parents' weekend stay at one point everyone had to come to the table and draw.  We had a drawing party!  OK everyone, but Ryan.  Instead of drawing he wore his new bicycle helmet while climbing mountains(blow up mattresses), but not Matthew.
He draws what he is thinking.  He never comes to ask, how do I draw this or that.  He just DRAWS it if he is thinking it!
So I have already rearranged our school room to accommodate my little Van Gogh.  We will now have an Art Station full of paper, crayons, pens, markers, etc.  They already have full access to all this, but arts and crafts must be a part of our day.
And I am hoping #1 will decide he wants to draw instead of climbing mountains one day.
For now I sit back and watch my little Van Gogh create.
