(sung to "I'm A Little Teapot")
I see a little groundhog, furry and brown,
He's popping up to look around.
If he sees his shadow, down he'll go.
Six more weeks of winter - oh, no!
Happy Groundhog's Day!!!! I will say this is not how I wanted to start my blogging for February. I had intended on doing 14 lovely days of Valentine crafts, but due to the weather(we are iced in)I never made it to the store for supplies. That's OK I'll catch up next week. Besides the boys knew nothing about Groundhog Day so this will be fun!
We will start out by reading a new book(thanks Grams and Pop!!)to learn about Groundhog Day. Very cute!
After we read we will do a cute, EASY craft. Pop-up Groundhog Puppet. That is IF the power does not go out again!! Our power was out for 15 minutes already this morning. We are having rolling blackouts lasting about 15-25 minutes due to the weather in our area. We have the fire going and are ready to hunker down for the day inside. In the back by the fire if need be.
Anyway here is the craft.
Supplies needed:
Paper cup (or styrofoam cup)
Craft stick (popsicle stick)
Brown and green construction paper
Scissors
Glue
The face for the groundhog I simply searched the net for a picture and then printed it out. Cut out the body and glue the face to the body. Then glue to a craft stick.
Cut a slit in the bottom of the cup like this.
Cut strips of green and brown construction paper for the grass and weeds. Glue to the top of the cup. The white cup is the SNOW!
Now drop the Groundhog/stick into the opening in the bottom of the cup. See the groundhog pop up looking for his shadow.
Very EASY!!! The boys have seen the one I made and are anxious to make their own.
I have seen the latest that Phil is predicting an early Spring. Oh how I hope this little fellow is right. This weather is NOT for me!
Hope you are warm and cozy on this Groundhog Day!!!!!
