To help us celebrate this season of Advent we will be lighting candles on each Sunday leading up to Christmas. The candles signify that Jesus is the Light of the World (the boys' Bible verse this past week in school). The evergreens remind us that He is life and brings life to us. All these are usually arranged in a circle because life in Christ has no end. This candle holder was as close as I could get and will serve for this purpose. Each Sunday we will light an additional candle. Then on Christmas Eve, we will light all the candles, including the center one, the Christ candle.
As we do, we will rejoice that Christ has come to us. He is Immanuel…God with us.
On this first Sunday of Advent, we light the candle of hope. Hope is our assurance that God will finish all He has started. Hope is our confidence that He will do all He has promised.
All the promises of God are fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
He is our hope, today and forever! (2 Corinthians 1:20)

About the candles......I have read different ways churches and families use the candles in celebrating. Some use four purple and one white, the Christ candle. Three purple, one pink and one white. Some churches are now using royal blue in place of the pink. Royal blue to distinguish the Season of Advent from Lent. Royal blue is sometimes used as a symbol of royalty. And some say the different colors mean different things.
This is just how our family has decided to use the candles this year. Do your research. Use what you feel is right for your family.
Happy 1st Advent Sunday!!!!!
