The Corpse Flower BLOOMS!

Sunday I told you about The Corpse Flower and promised I would be back today to show you her bloom.  To learn more about The Corpse Flower click on the link above.

We had intended to go last night, but after learning on Sunday she had already bloomed we didn't want to take a chance of missing it.  She, Lenore (yes, they named her), only blooms for 24-48 hours and then goes dormant for a L  O  N  G time.  It will not bloom again for 6-10 years.

There she is in all her glory.  Blooming and smelling like........
Matthew said, "dirty diapers".
Ryan said, "a garbage dump".

She did stink, but not unless I put my nose right up into it and smelled it.  I figured we would walk in the greenhouse and it would knock us down.  Not the case, it was not as bad as I thought.

And speaking of not what I thought......I had a vision of bright colorful blooms coming out.  Deep down inside you could see little yellow "flowers".....I think they were little flowers.  Unfortunately my phone camera really did not get a good picture of that.

As a lover of all of nature I could stand back and see the inner beauty of this flower.  Although it did not have the outward beauty I was thinking it would I can see God's incredible love and work in this plant.

Beauty is not just an appearance to me.  The process and time it took for this flower to bloom is beyond AMAZING and that is the beauty I saw.

How splendid! I once got to see a Century Cactus bloom at a greenhouse in Montana!
