Five on Friday-# 7

ONE-Whoa!  Fast forward one week and here I am again.  Blogging has not been on my mind this week.  A holiday (with Brant off), school, and the boys giving me their nasty cold/cough/sore throat this week I have been all out of sorts.  The cold still lingers on, but I am getting better.  Something else has been lingering around our home lately.  In fact all week and he may be here to stay.  Me and the boys secretly kinda hope so.

TWO-This little guy graced us with his presence on Monday.  We had seen him before when we first moved in over a year ago.  He was just a little kitten then.  And still has kitten in him!  A little wild, but really sweet too.  We are not sure if he is a neighbor's pet, but he has decided to stick around all week.  He leaves during the day and we think he is gone for good, but he comes back.  I'll admit I may have contributed to him staying.......yes I have been feeding him and letting him in.  He looked skinny and it has been cold.  And he cries......I am a sucker for a good cry.  But I really thought he would leave.  Even with the boys teasing, playing really hard with him and chasing him around he comes back.  I think he loves the attention!  We have named him and there are several names going around.....Cinnamon, Cisco and the newest Copper.  His eyes are amazing!
I have warned the boys of outside cats......telling them they often roam and find new homes and that he may indeed be gone tomorrow.  So far I say it every day and then the next he is still here.  It's nice having an animal around.  Even if he is just temporary.  We miss having a pet.

THREE-remember my birthday gift ?  The leather cuff from Farmgirl Paints ?  Well her Etsy shop just reopened on Monday.  Sorry I am behind on reminding you.  This month she started something new.  Sunday on Instagram she requested anyone who had one of her cuffs to take a "selfie" of your face and cuff.  She and her staff would then pick a picture and that person would win a free custom cuff.  Monday they announced the winner.  Guess who won?

I was shocked!  I could not believe I actually won.  I'll share my new cuff later on.  You still have a few days to purchase a cuff.  Her shop will close on the 20th.  So get over there and pick a cuff, a blank and words that inspire you.  Becky is a true gift from God to so many women.  I read all the comments on Instagram from women buying a cuff with words that mean something to them.  A piece of leather to look at on your wrist to push you through a hard time, remind you of something you are working towards, to lift you up or simply make you smile.  Also if you are on Instagram follow farmgirlpaints.  You will not be disappointed you did!

FOUR-we are so ready!  The boys and I have been on an afternoon tea kick lately.  Maybe because we have had a few days of chilly weather.  And due to the chilly weather and drinking tea it also got us in the mood to think about Christmas.  The boys Matthew was so excited to talk about decorating the house this year so we promptly got out our Christmas dishes and had our afternoon tea.  We did decide to wait a couple of weeks to fully decorate, but after that Christmas is ON!!!

English Breakfast and banana nut bread

FIVE-words to bring comfort.  To give you a big hug.
the Lord appeared to him from far away.
I have loved you with an everlasting love;
    therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you.

Jeremiah 31:3

Happy Friday!  I hope you have a great weekend!

Five on Friday-#6

ONE-and so it begins.  Upward Basketball!!  Last night the boys went for their evaluations and to be fitted for uniforms.  When I woke up this morning, one hour earlier than I really needed to (darn time change!), my thoughts went to this new adventure.  And to the weekly practice sessions they will begin at the busiest time of the year!  Practice will begin the first week in December and games start in January.  The boys are SO excited!!  Momma has a paper bag handy.

TWO-Bacon, Potato and Caramelized Onions.  I mean really.  How can you go wrong with that?!?!  Trying THIS new pizza recipe tonight.  It is similar to THIS ONE with fewer ingredients.  If potatoes sound weird on a pizza they did to me too at first.  They are a nice surprise I tell you.  So if you are looking for a fresh idea for pizza give either one a try.  Think outside the pizza box!

THREE-it's a classic.  It's been around since I was a little girl and I still love to watch it.  I have a rule in November that we do not buy the boys anything.  It is just too close to Christmas.  But how do you say no to A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving?!
I couldn't!!!!!  In less than five minutes of being home it was unwrapped and in the DVD player.

FOUR-remember the porch post I painted green? Well last weekend I got around to painting the shorter piece.  I love the color before I added the stain, but this one is for Brant.  We're keeping it as is.  Paint can do amazing things.

#colormakesmehappy
FIVE-I may not be making as many sweet treats with pumpkin as I usually do, but I am always willing to try a pumpkin craft.  I had intended on making THIS  super easy pumpkin, but I used what I had on hand.  Scrap burlap, dollar store pumpkin and a real pumpkin stem.  Before we tossed our Halloween jack-o-lantern I grabbed the stem.  Then I took strips of burlap and hot glued them to the pumpkin.  Attached the stem and there you have it.  I love how it came out.

And I am very grateful it is FRIDAY!!!!!!

Enjoy your day and weekend.

Five on Friday #5

One-after a week (and more today!) of unexpected appts., unusual errands and more running around than I care to do in a week, I will be extremely happy when tomorrow comes.  TGIS!

Two-two words-GARAGE SALE!  And with a private viewing of things not put out inside the house!! Tomorrow me and my sister and all the guys are headed out early to a friend of my mother's garage sale.  Thirfty shopping is a fav!  Are you a garage sale shopper?

Three -you know it is truly fall regardless of the temps when I get out "The Thankful Acorn".  Can you believe a week from today is November 1st?!?!  It was fun to see what our "thankfuls" were last year.  Somehow I overlooked putting them into an album last year.  I'll post about it next week, but if you are curious now just search the blog for "thankful acorn".

Four-I am crushing over this new color of polish for fall!  It is a deep purple.  It is cheap and it is fabulous!  The color reminded me of the song by Donnie and Marie Osmond back in the late 70s.  Oh my goodness was I a fan.  My whole family for that matter.  I can see Donnie now singing Deep Purple.....dreamy!  Go ahead....look it up on YouTube!

Sinful Colors-Enchanted

Five-growing out and keeping your grey hair can be a little BO-RING!  Lucky for me I have a hairdresser that is young and hip and loves to try new things.  She was giddy when I talked to her about this!  No, I am not giving up on growing out the grey.  In fact I love the look of it mixed with the other colors of my hair.  I have four different colors going on right now.  And after today I'll add another.  It's fall and there are some pretty vibrate colors in nature happening.  And I plan to add one of them.  I am also giddy.  A little anxious, nervous, but trying to be daring and bold.  It was so much easier when I was younger.  I had every color of hair except platinum blonde. Including a deep magenta!  Not deep purple, which btw would be awesome, but magenta.  It's just hair and will grow out.  Or she can cover it.  Or I'll lock myself in the bathroom until she comes to the rescue (she lives next door).  The way I see this is, for the most part I feel 26 (not 46), so while I can I'll act like it.  BUT no sleeve tattoos this weekend.

Enjoy your weekend!

Five on Friday #4

One
As Halloween gets closer and the thought of trick-or-treating gets the boys all excited costumes have changed.  I am now putting a stop to it so they will have to make some tough decisions.
Soldier and Gladiator.  Or Red and Blue Ninja.

Even at 8 1/2 the boys still love to dress-up.  Costumes have been a big part of their play for many years.  We don't spend much on costumes, but to get two before Halloween is a BIG treat to say the least.  After Halloween we stock up.  My mom along with me and my sisters score 2-3 costumes for the regular price of one the day after.  These have made great Christmas gifts in the past.  Of course the best costumes are gone and what is left the day after are not so great.  BUT with a little imagination and effort you can throw in some accessories to make a fun costume.  Homemade costumes are the best!  I'm having a blast putting mine together.

Two
The COOLEST APP EVER!!!!!  Oh my goodness, this is one of the best apps I have purchased.  And I don't purchase very many.  The other day Brant told me about an app a friend at work had on his phone.  He knew it would be perfect for us since we are studying Astronomy this year in school.  And boy was he right!  Search for Google Sky in the app store.  On my phone it was called "StarMap 3D".  Here are pictures of the screen I took with my phone.  It tracks where you are and shows you the sky....stars, planets, the moon, the sun, constellations and galaxies!!
The SUN at the top!  And then Saturn and Mercury at the bottom here.

Orion's Belt!

The MOON and the Milky Way!
You must check it out!!!!!

Three
I used my book again to make a simple fall banner for the LR.  It took me all of about 15 minutes after a quick look through my stash.  I traced leaves and pumpkins, added cardstocks squares and stickers to spell out F A M I LY.  I like it....I like it alot :)

Four
Do you have days you wish would just go away?!  Maybe weeks or months?  The Good Lord knows what we need best, but often times we think we know better.  Life changes, times are tough, our days don't go as planned and I run to my room like a little child and throw myself on the bed to cry we want to throw our hands up and give up.  I saw this yesterday on Girltalk and it hit me.  HARD!
Find comfort in these words.

Five
And last but certainly not least......recently my inlaws were over and told us about a little treat.  They said you take candy corn (or corndy can as Ryan called it when he was little) and peanuts, eat together and it taste just like a PayDay Candy Bar.  We tried it and they are so right!  Lets say this is a little addictive.  And now Brach's makes the candy corn with the salted peanuts already in the bag.  This jar was full JUST YESTERDAY!  Needless to say I need to hide the jar.

Happy Friday Y'all!  Enjoy your weekend.

Five on Friday #3

{{ONE}}
Ready or not school begins MONDAY!!!!!  I still have a few little details to prepare for before Monday....special breakfast, first day treats, "school" photos---pretty much a FUN first day!

{{TWO}}

And now for the make-over reveal of this boring rooster.....
BEFORE

And AFTER!!!  Rise and Shine sleepy head!  He makes me smile.  I've had this rooster for over 15 years and he has never made me laugh and smile the way he does now.  A little Sunshine Yellow paint can do wonders for my spirits.  I think he needs a name.  Have any suggestions??

{{THREE}}
Speaking of color......and I mean FALL colors.  Despite the warm temps still lingering on you know from recent posts I am in the Fall mode.  What about you?  Did you put your Fall decorations out yet?  Have you inadvertently picked up Fall colors when clothes shopping....you know deep rich orange, browns, jewel tones?  Have you gathered all your pumpkin recipes (yes, I have!!!)?

{{FOUR}}
And one more about color-and this could be FALL colors too!  Many of you know I am on a quest to embrace my ever growing grey hair.  In that quest old color and highlights were growing out.  Not a very pretty growing out color. So yesterday I decided to tone down the nasty, brassy color and add lowlights.  The lowlights are as close to my natural color as she could get.  It is a much darker color than I have had in years!  But it toned down everything growing out and it comes close to matching my natural dark eyebrows.  It is a nice change going into fall.
A word to anyone with virgin hair-embrace your natural color!!!!

{{FIVE}}
And I saved the best for last!!!  This weekend marks a VERY special time!  My sisters and I, along with our families, are celebrating my parents 50th wedding anniversary!!!!
50 years is a long time!!  So needless to say we are having a town party!  It's a small town so we figured we could invite everyone..........hehehehe.......if they only knew what we had planned.

Happy Weekend All!!!

Five on Friday #2

{{ONE}}
This morning I woke with a nagging headache.  And I knew just what would make me feel better.  A talk with Jesus and my beloved coffee.  It's all good now.

{{TWO}}
A fun Pinterest find. I really want this tshirt!  Isn't it great?!?!

{{THREE}}
I can't wait until Sunday!  You know what Sunday is right?  Well besides the Lord's Day of course.......it is September 1st.  And that is the day the inside of our home (probably my blog too!) is transformed into a Fall Dream Land.  And because of a certain blogging friend I am getting very excited about it!!!!  Thanks for the inspiration Danni ;)

{{FOUR}}
Good-bye white.  Good-bye toes.  Hello jeans and closed toe shoes.  Well almost on the closed toe shoes.  I will still be sporting flip flips and sandals for a little while, but my toes are ready to hibernate.  And maybe this is just me when it comes to the white.  Growing up I can always remember being told by my Mother and Mama Flo that you do not wear white after Labor Day.  As in white pants or white shoes.  It may be old school or a Southern thing, but it has stuck with me for years now.  So I will indeed still follow that family fashion rule.  White pants will go away after today.  Mama Flo would be proud.

{{FIVE}}
See my sweet rooster?  Well make sure to come back next Friday to see his new look!  Oh how I love a good makeover.

Hope you all have a great Friday, FUN weekend and a safe Labor Day!

Five on Friday

FUN Fridays are getting old.  But quite frankly with a new school year about to begin this blogging thing will likely take a backseat.  So with that in mind Five on Friday was born.  It will be short and sweet, but give a little insight as to what we have been up to or will be up to for the weekend.  I know you are just dying to know!  ((wink-wink))

{{ONE}}

I woke up yesterday morning seriously thinking it was Wednesday.  This was even after making my "To Do" list for THURSDAY on Wednesday night!  So right off the bat my day was off.  Boy was I thankful it really was Thursday.  Today I woke feeling rested knowing that today is Friday.  I love Fridays.  Why?  Well first and foremost because Friday means the weekend!  But mostly because that means two whole days with my bestest friend in the whole wide world-♥my love♥.

{{TWO}}

Have you noticed the shadows are already looking different.....oh I love when I see this!  I am so over summer right now!  Summer go away please.  My toes are over all the bright colors and I am slowly putting away summer colors in my wardrobe.  I know we still have a few more warm months, but my mind is already thinking FALL.  I am giddy over the little glimpse (in my mind) of the season change ahead.

{{THREE}}

School is slowly coming together.  I am ready for a routine again.  I do love lazy days of nothing major going on.  Days spent in the kitchen while the boys do school work and days hanging out around the house----wait a minute, that IS ALL I ever do! Hang out around the house!, but I am ready for a school schedule routine of hanging out around the house.  So I was especially excited when this box arrived yesterday.

{{FOUR}}

For the past month or so I have been trying really hard to exercise and watch what I eat.  I have done an alright job, but I am always looking for inspiration-motivation.   Found it and am feeling better!

OK so this really does not motivate, but I love the Keep Calm posters.
Planks are killing me and ROCKING my world!

{{FIVE}}

Humidity is going to be down today and you can beat we will be spending some time outdoors!  Porch time is my fav!

Happy Friday To Ya.
